Plan Year
The Plan Year for The Renfrew Center’s benefit programs begins on January 1, 2026 and ends on December 31, 2026.
Who Is Eligible
Benefits are available to all Full-Time employees (30+ hours) and Part-Time employees (20–29 hours).
If you are a new hire, benefits are effective on the first of the month following 60 days of employment.
Employees are eligible for 401(k) benefits on the first of the month following three months of employment.
When you elect a plan, it remains in effect for the entire plan year unless you experience a qualifying life event.
Dependent Eligibility
Eligible dependents may be covered under medical, dental, vision, and voluntary life plans:
- Your legal spouse or domestic partner (special rules apply for domestic partner coverage)
- Medical / Dental / Vision: dependent children covered up to age 26
- Voluntary Life: dependent children covered up to age 21, or 26 if a full-time student
- Unmarried children of any age who are mentally or physically disabled and totally dependent upon you for support (proof required)
Dependent eligibility for new enrollees will be audited by Human Resources.
Domestic Partnership
Domestic partners are eligible to enroll as dependents if specific criteria are met. Employee premium contributions for domestic partners are generally deducted post-tax, and any Renfrew contributions on behalf of a domestic partner are taxable income to you. Contact Human Resources for forms and details.
Changing Your Benefits
Per IRS rules, you may only enroll in pre-tax benefit plans once per year. Medical, Vision, and Dental elections are binding through December 31 unless you have a Qualifying Life Event, such as:
- Marriage, divorce, legal separation (where recognized), or annulment
- Birth, adoption, or placement for adoption of a child
- Loss of spouse’s job or change in work status (and other IRS-recognized events)
See the Life Events Checklist for more guidance.
